Specialist Glazing

2mm Plain Glass, although relatively inexpensive, has disadvantages: it is reflective, allows the majority of ultraviolet light to pass through to the artwork, is breakable, heavy and has slight green to blue colouration.

A variety of increasingly popular, specialist glasses and acrylics can eliminate some or all of these disadvantages if they are seen as a problem.

Using Museum Glass eliminates ca.99% of reflection

Ultra violet light can have a harmful effect on paper and pigments used in an artwork. Plain Glass has some effect in reducing the amount of ultra violet reaching framed pieces  but now UV filtering glass by T ruVueand Schott and acrylic by Artshield and Acrylite is available.

Anti refection glass by TruVue and  Schott has a microscopic coating that reduces reflection to a minimum allowing the artwork to be viewed more easily from any angle and in difficult lighting situations. Particularly recommended for darker images.

Acrylic has the advantage of being lighter and  less breakable, an important  consideration if children are around. It also has zero colouration. Ordinary acrylics are prone to scratching but we also have scratch-resistant Artshield acrylic available.
