A small range of bespoke, hand finished, 18th century style, black and gold frames for the Hogarth look. Designed by Pure and Applied in conjunction with leading, old master and antique print dealers. Carefully copying the 18th century original patterns and finishes these exclusive frames replicate the hard to find pear wood or Japanned, canted frames with gilt sight edges that were perfectly suited to Georgian 18th century etchings and engravings. Ideal for a Gillray or Hogarth print, or bringing the English style to the works of Piranesi and other masters. |
This profile example is a copy, milled in pine, of an 18th century, somewhat
worn, original. Our exclusive, closely guarded, lacquer finish beautifully replicates
the 18th century original; black to brown finishes can be achieved with
degrees of distressing and highlighting for an authentic look. The sight
edge can be gilded or a variety of slips added. |

Our "worn"
18th century profile with acanthus gold slip. Title window in mount. |

| This "sharp edged" version of the 18th century profile also has the traditional double rebate. With warm a brown/black lacquer finish it replicates the smart, look of sought after pear wood faced frames of the period. An added gold rounded slip defines the 19th century dissected map. |
